About this position
Tampere University invites applications for a Doctoral Researcher (PhD student) position in Antenna Engineering, located in the Faculty of Information Technology and Communication Sciences, Unit of Electrical Engineering. The research will be conducted at the Wireless Research Center, offering access to state-of-the-art RF measurement laboratories and an upcoming anechoic chamber. The main research focus is antenna engineering, including RF engineering, mobile phone antenna design, electromagnetic simulations, prototype manufacturing, extensive RF and antenna measurements, RF circuit design, and combining signal processing with antenna design.
The position is supervised by Academy Research Fellow Mikko Heino and involves carrying out high-quality research, publishing results in international conferences and journals, completing doctoral degree requirements, and assisting in teaching and undergraduate supervision (up to 5% of working time). The work is primarily conducted on site in Tampere, Finland, with partial remote work negotiable.
Applicants must hold a master’s degree (or equivalent eligibility for doctoral studies) in electrical engineering, microwave engineering, or a related field, completed before the employment start date. A strong foundation in antenna design and RF engineering, as well as excellent English communication skills, is required. Prior research experience is advantageous but not mandatory. Candidates must clearly state their motivation for doctoral studies in the cover letter and apply for study rights in the doctoral program at Tampere University.
The position offers a typical starting salary of approximately 2800 € per month, with increases based on experience and progress. Employment is full-time until 31.8.2029, with a 6-month trial period.
