About this position
The University of Helsinki Doctoral School is recruiting 30 salaried doctoral researchers for an interdisciplinary PhD opportunity in Finland. These positions are part of the RESDOC doctoral training project, co-funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) COFUND scheme and the University of Helsinki.
Candidates will conduct full-time doctoral research leading to a PhD degree and be enrolled in one of the University of Helsinki’s 14 doctoral programmes. The project is organized around four major research themes: infectious diseases and antimicrobial resistance in changing environments, biodiversity and nature’s resilience, secure and sustainable food and water systems, and just socio-ecological transition. The training environment emphasizes AI, systems thinking, innovation, sustainable development, social responsibility, risk management, and policy frameworks.
The positions are four-year fixed-term employment contracts starting between 1 January and 31 March 2027. The expected work location is Finland, and selected researchers must reside there during employment. The salary is approximately €2,900 gross per month, with taxes deducted automatically; a family or special needs allowance may be available where applicable. The package also includes occupational health care, staff benefits, and relocation/integration support.
Eligibility highlights include a Master’s degree or equivalent, no existing PhD, early-stage researcher status (less than 4 years of research experience), compliance with the MSCA mobility rule, a research topic aligned with RESDOC themes and supervision, no permanent employment at the University of Helsinki, and English language proficiency meeting University of Helsinki requirements.
