About this position

CY Cergy Paris Université is offering a fully funded 18-month full-time postdoctoral researcher position in the ETIS lab in Cergy-Pontoise, near Paris, France. The project focuses on developing AI and Big Data techniques for building, querying, and analysing argumentation models from textual resources.

The research combines machine learning, artificial intelligence, text analytics, opinion mining, and social/network analysis to construct semantic argumentation graphs. These graphs are intended to capture how arguments evolve over time, which actors are involved, and whether contributions are in favour or against a subject. The work is positioned at the intersection of computer science, data science, and argumentation modelling, with possible applications to public discussions on climate change, environmental issues, epidemics, and vaccinations.

The postdoc will work within the ETIS lab and collaborate with researchers in the UNKNOWNPATH project, funded by the CY Initiative of Excellence. The successful candidate will be supervised by Professor Dimitris Kotzinos.

Applicants should hold, or be close to completing, a PhD in computer science, big data, machine learning, data science, or a related area. Experience in applied computer science project development is expected, and familiarity with big data analytics tools such as R, Python, Java, or cloud environments is considered an advantage. The working language is English.

This is a temporary, full-time research position based in Cergy-Pontoise, France. The deadline indicated is 30 August 2026 at 23:59 Paris time, with applications submitted earlier considered in priority. To apply, candidates should email a PDF application package including a CV, transcripts, thesis and/or papers, references, and a motivation letter to Dimitrios.Kotzinos@cyu.fr.
