About this position

Fully funded PhD positions are available in the United States at the University of Tennessee Knoxville / UT-Oak Ridge Innovation Institute, working with Dr. Yifan Xu (Research Assistant Professor).

The research area is interdisciplinary and sits at the intersection of physical AI, robotics, artificial intelligence, and construction engineering. The group’s vision is to develop automation and robotics for construction, including intelligent robotic systems that can perceive, reason, learn, communicate, and operate in complex built environments.

Ideal applicants come from Computer Science, Robotics, Industrial Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or closely related fields. Strong programming ability in Python, C++, MATLAB, or similar is expected, along with strong motivation for hands-on, interdisciplinary robotics research.

Helpful experience includes ROS/ROS 2, simulation platforms such as Isaac Sim, MuJoCo, Gazebo, or PyBullet, robot learning, imitation learning, reinforcement learning, computer vision, 3D perception, multimodal AI, and prior publications or robotics research experience.

Funding details

Full funding including tuition fees and living expenses is available for this position. The scholarship covers all educational costs and provides a monthly stipend.
