About this position

15 fully funded PhD positions are available in the Horizon Europe MSCA Doctoral Network RESCUE, a Europe-wide doctoral programme focused on geophysics for sustainable soil and groundwater remediation.

RESCUE brings together an international consortium of academic and non-academic partners to address legacy and emerging contamination through non-invasive geophysical methods and advanced remediation technologies. The research spans contaminant behaviour and geophysical signatures, high-resolution site characterisation, monitoring of contamination and remediation processes, and socio-economic, legal, and sustainability assessment.

The network is interdisciplinary and combines environmental science, earth science, civil engineering, physics, chemistry, and biology. Doctoral candidates will receive advanced scientific and transferable skills training, including communication, project management, entrepreneurship, open science, and stakeholder engagement. The programme also includes international and intersectoral secondments across academia, industry, public authorities, and other societal stakeholders.

Positions are hosted across a broad European consortium including Ghent University, University of Liège, Sorbonne Université, Forschungszentrum Jülich, University of Stuttgart, Aarhus University, University of Vienna, Eurecat, Linköping University, Cranfield University, Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology, and Photon Water, among others.

The positions are fully funded and offer competitive salary and employment conditions. Start dates are expected between November 2026 and January 2027.

Interested applicants should review the individual PhD projects and application procedure on the RESCUE website.
