The Leibniz Institute of Polymer Research Dresden (IPF) is advertising a PhD candidate position in the Division of Macromolecular Chemistry, within the Sustainable Electronic Materials Department. The successful candidate will design and synthesize photoresponsive NHC precursors and molecular building blocks, develop surface-coupling strategies for low-dimensional polymer architectures, and characterize the resulting structures with a scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) group.
Additional work includes investigating light-induced switching behavior and charge transport at the molecular level, establishing structure-function relationships between molecular architecture and optoelectronic performance, and translating the fundamental findings into device concepts. The project also includes fabrication and evaluation of light-responsive organic electrochemical transistors (OECTs) for optical switching and photodetection applications.
Eligibility highlights: a Master's degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science, Nanotechnology, or a related field; strong background in organic synthesis and functional molecular materials; desirable experience with conductive polymers; knowledge of electrochemistry and electrochemical characterization; and an advantage for applicants with device fabrication experience in OECTs, OFETs, or sensors.
