This PhD project focuses on the development of novel SiC MEMS-based microanalytical systems for low-power, field-deployable monitoring. The research combines materials science, chemical engineering, physics, and agri-food monitoring to build a monolithic micromachined platform based on silicon carbide (SiC).

The project aims to leverage SiC’s chemical inertness, mechanical robustness, thermal stability, and frequency stability to create an integrated system with: (i) an ultra-low form factor microfluidic separation module and (ii) a multi-modal SiC sensor for precise analyte identification. The final goal is a low-power platform for real-time, on-line measurements in harsh production environments, with applications in precision farming and safety monitoring.
