About this position

PhD opportunity in Biomedical Sciences at the Instituto de Investigação e Inovação em Saúde da Universidade do Porto (i3S), Porto, Portugal.

This opening is part of the EU-funded REBORN project, focused on remodelling the infarcted heart through a piezoelectric multifunctional cardiac patch that can sequentially release therapeutic factors after myocardial infarction. The research sits in the area of cardiac regenerative medicine and combines innovative materials, nanocarriers, and 3D bioprinting concepts to support heart tissue repair.

The selected researcher will contribute to in vitro and in vivo testing of the biocompatibility and efficacy of developed nanocarriers and patch prototypes. The work is embedded in the Stem Cells in Regenerative Biology and Repair group at i3S, a research environment oriented toward regenerative biology and translational biomedical research.

Eligibility highlights: a PhD degree in Biomedical Sciences or a related area, strong practical experience in immunofluorescence, tissue engineering, and extracellular matrix research, an adequate publication record, and fluency in English. Applicants should also demonstrate teamwork and interpersonal skills and indicate immediate availability in the motivation letter.

Funding and contract: the position is financed through Horizon Europe / European Commission funding. The monthly remuneration is €2,408.11 (Junior Researcher scale).
