About this position

Karolinska Institutet is advertising a PhD/doctoral student position in Clinical Genetics focused on treatment resistance in chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). The project is hosted in Professor Richard Rosenquist Brandell’s research group at the Department of Molecular Medicine and Surgery (MMK), located at BioClinicum in Stockholm, Sweden.

The research aims to uncover molecular mechanisms of resistance to contemporary therapies in CLL by combining multi-omics data, next-generation sequencing, mechanistic cell studies, CRISPR screens, and spatial proteomics. The group works closely with Clinical Genetics and Genomics at Karolinska University Hospital and Clinical Genomics at Science for Life Laboratory.

This is a PhD placement and the doctoral position is partially funded through strategic doctoral education funds (KID funding) from Karolinska Institutet. The student will be employed on a doctoral studentship for up to 4 years full-time and receives a contractual salary.

Eligibility highlights: a master’s degree in biomedicine, molecular biology, biotechnology, or a closely related field; hands-on mammalian cell culture and basic molecular biology skills (qPCR, cloning, flow cytometry); excellent English communication skills. Desirable experience includes cancer genomics, large-scale sequencing, R/Python for omics analysis, and CRISPR-based genome editing/screening.

How to apply: submit your application via the Varbi recruitment system. Include a personal letter, CV, degree projects, publications if any, supporting documents for desirable skills, and proof of general and specific eligibility. The deadline is 2026-08-09.
