About this position
PhD position / Junior Research Associate (all genders) at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE), Department of Endocrinology.
The project focuses on resilience, recovery from catabolic states, and the physiology of resistance and recovery, with strong links to endocrinology, metabolism research, neuroscience, comparative physiology, evolutionary biology, and biochemistry. The lab studies a gut-to-brain pathway and combines experimental manipulations in model organisms with clinical data. Work will include experimental in vivo and in vitro research, planning experiments, documentation, statistical analysis, interpretation, presentation, rodent colony management, and scientific publishing.
The lab is embedded in the Hamburg Center of Translational Immunology and collaborates with groups at Yale School of Medicine and the University of Colorado Boulder. The environment is interdisciplinary, translational, and strongly collaborative, with access to core facilities and an independent rodent colony.
Eligibility highlights: completed Master’s degree or equivalent; favorable background in metabolism, ribosomal biology and translation, developmental biology, physiology, comparative physiology, or neuroscience-related fields; at least 2 years of mouse experience; FELASA B or equivalent animal training; experience with mouse colony management and animal protocol applications; publication record; and 2 recommendation letters. Proof of measles immunization/immunity is required before employment.
Funding and contract: temporary appointment for 3 years, initially at 65% of regular weekly working hours, funded by third-party funding. Salary follows TVöD/VKA; the posting lists a full-time equivalent range of €63,600–€91,100.
