About this position
PhD position in Heart Failure–Oral Crosstalk: Imaging & Computational Analysis at the Department of Orthodontics, University Hospital RWTH Aachen as part of CRC/SFB 1739.
The project investigates how heart failure affects periodontal homeostasis and tissue remodelling, including alveolar bone, periodontal ligament, and surrounding oral tissues. The work combines high-resolution micro-CT, histology, and quantitative image analysis using established animal models, with an emphasis on developing reproducible computational workflows in collaboration with cardiovascular researchers, pathologists, and imaging scientists.
Applicants should have an MSc in Biomedical Imaging, Medical Physics, Biophysics, Physics, Bioengineering, Computational Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field. Experience with image analysis and tomography is required; programming skills in Python, MATLAB, and Fiji/ImageJ are a plus, as is experience with AI/ML.
