About this position
PhD Research Fellow opportunity at the University of Oslo, Department of Informatics (IFI), in Formal Methods and Knowledge Representation for engineering information.
The project focuses on modelling and analysis of complex manufacturing and intralogistics systems, including highly automated factories and warehouses with autonomous components. Research topics include integrated engineering information representations, consistency checking, automated reasoning, knowledge graphs, temporal modelling, formal verification, timed and probabilistic behavioural models, model checking, performance evaluation, and optimization.
Applicants should have a Master’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science or a related field, with a strong background in computer science and mathematics. The ad explicitly seeks candidates with excellent academic preparation in formal methods, logic, theoretical computer science, or related areas, plus demonstrated interest in formal modelling, verification, or knowledge representation. Good English skills are required, and applicants from outside the EU/EEA may need to meet additional English requirements. High grades are expected: bachelor average C or better, master average B or better, and master thesis grade B or better in the Norwegian system.
The fellowship is a paid PhD position for three years, with a possible extension up to four years depending on teaching and other compulsory work. Salary is NOK 550,800–595,000 depending on competence and experience.
