About this position
Postdoc in AI-Based Energy Management for Energy Communities at the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST), in Belvaux/Esch-Belval, Luxembourg.
This full-time temporary postdoctoral position (24 months) is part of the EnerTEF project funded by Horizon Europe. The role sits within LIST’s Intelligent and Clean Energy Systems (ICES) research unit and focuses on the development and validation of AI-based solutions for energy communities, EV charging, distributed energy resources, and flexible energy systems.
The successful candidate will work with real-time simulators (OPAL-RT), hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) methods, and rapid prototyping tools (dSPACE) to test and validate intelligent control and optimization approaches in complex operation environments. The work also involves IoT devices, meters, controllers, and IEDs to manage real-time data from the edge level, and integrating AI solutions with energy management systems (EMS) to improve interactions between distributed energy resources and EV charging infrastructure.
The project aims to support a common federated AI testing and experimentation facility for the energy sector, contributing to grid flexibility, renewable energy integration, demand response, storage, and digital twin-based experimentation. Findings are expected to be disseminated through publications, presentations, and contributions to the EnerTEF project and its industrial and academic partners across Europe.
Applicants should hold a PhD in electrical engineering, computer science, energy systems, or a related discipline. The profile requested includes hands-on experience with RT-HIL and rapid prototyping, knowledge of communication networks and protocols, familiarity with networked controllers and meters, programming skills in Python/PyTorch/HyperSim, and a background in AI techniques and tools. Strong communication skills and good written and spoken English are required.
