Postdoc in Circular Manufacturing Systems KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden

KTH Royal Institute of Technology is seeking a postdoctoral fellow in Circular Manufacturing Systems within the Department of Production Engineering in Stockholm, Sweden. The position contributes to the transition from linear to circular value chains through research on reusable, remanufactured, and resource-efficient production solutions for the manufacturing industry.

The work is closely connected to the iReGear project and is carried out in collaboration with TRATON Group R&D. A key research focus is how remanufactured transmission components can be integrated into production systems for new heavy vehicles, and how circularity can be scaled in industrial applications. The project includes analysis and development of component and material flows, as well as identification of opportunities for reuse, reprocessing, and remanufacturing while considering technical, quality, and operational requirements.

This postdoc is part of KTH’s PROCEED initiative for research activities in Södertälje, offering collaboration opportunities with Traton/Scania and AstraZeneca. Regular physical presence in Södertälje is an important part of the role to support close collaboration. The position also provides opportunities to build an international network, develop independent research, and contribute to the green transition of industry.

Eligibility and requirements: applicants must hold a doctoral degree or equivalent foreign degree by the employment decision date. A PhD in engineering is required, together with MSc and BSc degrees in production, manufacturing, industrial, mechanical, or related areas. The successful candidate should have publications in leading peer-reviewed journals, ideally in circular economy or production engineering, and demonstrate capability in cross-disciplinary leadership, proposal writing, project coordination, and collaboration across disciplines and organizations. Experience in circular manufacturing systems, remanufacturing, innovation projects, industrial environments, and international or EU-funded projects is highly valued, as are strong English skills and excellent collaborative and communication abilities.
