About this position

Postdoc in Computational and Multi-Aperture Ultrasound Imaging at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) in the Netherlands.

This postdoctoral position sits in the Department of Biomedical Engineering, where engineering and life sciences are combined to address major healthcare challenges. The project is part of the recently funded VICI programme (R)evolution in Abdominal Ultrasound Imaging, which aims to transform abdominal ultrasound through distributed multi-aperture sensing, advanced image formation, and functional imaging methods.

The successful candidate will work at the intersection of ultrasound physics, signal processing, machine learning, computational imaging, and clinical translation. The role is intended as a technological integrator across several research tracks, with close collaboration with three PhD candidates and industrial partner Philips Healthcare.

Core research tasks include developing methods for multi-aperture ultrasound acquisition, ultrasound-based probe localisation, adaptive imaging strategies, and image reconstruction. The postdoc will help combine multiple distributed transducers into a coherent imaging platform and support the integration of hardware, acquisition, and reconstruction frameworks.

This is an excellent opportunity for a researcher with a strong background in biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, applied physics, computer science, or medical imaging to build an international profile in advanced ultrasound imaging and contribute to clinically relevant diagnostic technology.

Eligibility highlights: PhD degree required; strong experience in ultrasound imaging and related computational methods; excellent programming skills in Python, MATLAB, or C++; track record of high-quality publications; strong communication and project-management skills; English proficiency; and willingness to coach PhD and Master's students in an interdisciplinary environment.

Funding and conditions: full-time appointment for 2 years, salary in scale 10 of the Dutch Universities collective labour agreement, with a gross monthly salary of €4,422 to €5,760, plus a year-end bonus and vacation allowance.
