About this position

Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) is advertising a postdoctoral position in eDNA technology for early detection of forest pathogens at the Department of Forest Bioeconomy and Technology in Umeå, Sweden.

The project focuses on developing and applying environmental DNA (eDNA) methods to detect fungi and insects that damage Swedish forestry. The work combines molecular biology, microbiology, ecology, bioinformatics, field studies, and data analysis. A key aim is to use filters from forest machines to collect airborne eDNA and build cost-efficient monitoring tools for forest health. The project is collaborative and interdisciplinary, involving Komatsu Forest, Sveaskog, the Forest Technology Cluster, SLU Umeå, and Umeå University.

Applicants should have a PhD obtained within the past three years in molecular biology, microbiology, biotechnology, ecology, bioinformatics, or a related field. Experience with DNA-based analytical methods such as qPCR, sequencing, metabarcoding, or eDNA is required. Experience with air sampling, pathogen detection, field studies, bioinformatic analysis, large datasets, and GPS/GIS is considered an advantage. Strong English skills are required.
