About this position

University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE) is advertising a postdoc position in liver immunity within the section Regenerative Medicine and Immunology in Hamburg, Germany. The project focuses on how innate lymphocytes and adaptive immune cells interact in the liver during liver inflammation and hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection, with the broader goal of understanding developmental programs that regulate liver immune development and may help prevent chronic HBV infection.

The work combines experimental immunology, liver organoid systems, human tissue-based models, and computational analysis of high-dimensional datasets such as flow cytometry, scRNA-seq, and spatial transcriptomics. Responsibilities include experimental design, wet-lab experiments, documentation, statistical analysis, interpretation of results, scientific publishing, conference presentations, and community outreach.

Eligibility highlights include a completed university degree and preferably a PhD in biology, biochemistry, or a related field, or a medical degree with a clinical-scientific background. Training in tissue immunology or infectious diseases and expertise in computational omics analysis are preferred. Applicants must also provide two letters of recommendation and show a strong interest in academic research. Proof of measles immunization or immunity is required before employment begins.

The position is temporary for 2 years and is funded by third-party funding. Compensation follows TVöD/VKA / TV-Ärzte/VKA, with a salary range of approximately €63,600–€91,100 for a full-time 38.5-hour week, depending on qualifications and experience.

Application deadline: 2026-08-24. Apply via the UKE application portal and submit a CV, publication list, certificates, and recommendation letters.
