About this position
Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) in Morocco is recruiting a Postdoctoral Fellow in Multimodal Crop Analysis & Fertilizer Optimization for Sustainable Agriculture, a research role focused on decision-support systems for farmers. The position is based at UM6P’s College of Computing in Benguerir, with the broader university environment spanning Benguerir and Rabat campuses and a strong emphasis on research, innovation, and collaboration with industry and local stakeholders.
The project aims to develop farmer-centric systems that combine multi-modal remote sensing, soil data, and phenology data to support crop classification and produce precise, customized fertilizer recommendations. This is a highly interdisciplinary opportunity at the intersection of computer science, geoinformatics, agronomy, crop science, machine learning, soil science, and environmental science. The role is well suited to candidates interested in translating advanced data science into practical agricultural decision support.
Applicants must hold a PhD (awarded or defended before the start date) in Computer Science, Remote-Sensing/Geoinformatics, Agricultural Data Science, or a related area. Strong experience in remote-sensing imagery and/or time-series analysis, as well as machine learning or deep learning for spatio-temporal data, is required. The post also calls for advanced Python programming and familiarity with tools such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, rasterio, and GDAL. Candidates should be able to work independently, produce reproducible research outputs, and communicate effectively in English while collaborating with agronomists and project partners. Postdoctoral experience or 2+ years of research experience after the PhD, first-author publications, multimodal data fusion experience, satellite data experience (Sentinel, Landsat, Google Earth Engine), and field or ground-truth experience are considered advantageous. French or Arabic would be useful for local engagement.
The appointment is fixed-term for 24 months at UM6P in Benguerir. Applicants are asked to submit a cover letter indicating fit with CropID and availability to start, a CV with ORCID and GitHub links, a 1–2 page research statement with a 12–18 month plan, up to three representative papers, links to code/datasets where available, and 2–3 referee contacts. Shortlisting will be based on research fit, technical expertise, and interdisciplinarity, followed by a technical interview for selected candidates.
This is a strong opportunity for a researcher interested in multimodal analytics, precision agriculture, and building reproducible AI-based tools for sustainable crop management in Africa.
