About this position

Post-doctoral Fellow (f/m) on ID15A in the X-Ray Diffraction & Scattering Group at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF), Grenoble, France.

This postdoctoral opening is centered on materials chemistry with strong links to battery science, catalysis, glasses, and other disordered systems. The beamline ID15A specializes in high-speed multidimensional X-ray diffraction and total scattering, with advanced instrumentation for operando and in situ experiments using high-energy X-rays in the 40–100 keV range.

The successful candidate will set up a research programme leveraging ID15A’s multidimensional and operando capabilities, support beamline users, collaborate with beamline staff, publish in peer-reviewed journals, and present results at scientific meetings. The role is ideal for researchers interested in synchrotron-based X-ray methods, experimental data analysis, and developing innovative diffraction projects.

Eligibility highlights: Ph.D. in physics, materials science, chemistry, or a closely related discipline, obtained less than 3 years ago; practical experience in X-ray diffraction/scattering; strong experimental data analysis skills; English proficiency. Preferred: scientific programming (especially Python) and instrumentation experience relevant to high-energy X-ray diffraction beamlines.

Funding and conditions: full-time time-limited contract for 18 months, renewable for an additional 6 to 18 months. Salary starts at 50.6 K€, with a competitive compensation and allowances package and relocation support to Grenoble.

How to apply: Submit your application via the ESRF recruitment portal. For further information, contact Marco Di Michiel (dimichie@esrf.fr) or Stefano Checchia (stefano.checchia@esrf.fr).
