About this position
Postdoctoral position in analytical chemistry at Sorbonne Université and École polytechnique in France, focused on innovative analytical approaches for the study of paint layers and the ageing/degradation of oil paintings.
The project is hosted by the Laboratoire d’Archéologie Moléculaire et Structurale (LAMS) and the Laboratoire de Chimie Moléculaire (LCM), both affiliated with CNRS and the two universities. The research combines chromatography (HPLC, SFC) coupled with mass spectrometry, multimodal imaging (MALDI, TOF-SIMS, AFM-IR), and the development of data processing and image fusion tools.
The work will involve analysis of model samples, historical paint specimens, and, where relevant, heritage artworks. This is a strong fit for candidates interested in analytical chemistry, heritage science, materials science, and advanced instrumental analysis.
Eligibility highlights: PhD in analytical chemistry, strong skills in separation sciences and mass spectrometry, interest in data analysis, and less than two years of postdoctoral experience.
Funding and contract: 18-month fixed-term contract (CDD). No stipend amount is stated in the post.
Location: Paris and Palaiseau, France.
Deadline: 15 September 2026. Start date: no later than 1 December 2026.
