About this position
George Mason University’s Vora Lab in the Department of Physics and Astronomy is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher in experimental quantum materials.
The project focuses on correlated electronic and excitonic phenomena in van der Waals heterostructures, using optical spectroscopy at cryogenic temperatures and in high magnetic fields. A major part of the role is to develop a new magneto-optical spectroscopy system, including design, construction, and first measurements. The position also includes fabrication and characterization of van der Waals heterostructures.
The lab is affiliated with the Quantum Science and Engineering Center at George Mason and collaborates with national laboratories, federal agencies, and quantum technology companies in the Washington, DC region. The appointment is designed to support an independent research career through proposal development, mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students, and conference presentations.
Eligibility: a doctorate in physics, applied physics, materials science, or a closely related field; hands-on laboratory experience in optical spectroscopy, low-temperature measurement, layered-material fabrication, or scientific instrument development; and preferably Python or LabVIEW experience for measurement automation.
Funding: competitive regional salary. The position is available immediately.
How to apply: contact Prof. Patrick Vora at pvora@gmu.edu with a CV. A research statement may follow after an initial conversation.
Funding details
Full funding including tuition fees and living expenses is available for this position. The scholarship covers all educational costs and provides a monthly stipend.
