Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Multifunctional Equipment Integration Group within the Thermal Systems Science Section, Buildings and Transportation Science Division, Energy Science and Technology Directorate.
The position focuses on research and development for buildings and the grid, with emphasis on materials science, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, and related areas. Research topics include advanced electrical insulation materials, advanced cooling solutions for energy systems, thermal management for electronics and data centers, and separation processes for building environments.
Responsibilities include experimental setup development, materials synthesis and analysis, sub-component fabrication, process optimization and integration, technical reporting, and publication in peer-reviewed journals. The role also involves collaboration with researchers from universities, national laboratories, and industry.
Eligibility requires a PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Materials Engineering, or a related discipline completed within the last five years. Applicants should have strong experimental research experience, a strong publication record, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently and in collaborative teams. Experience with advanced functional materials, heat transfer, thermal sciences, nanofluids, phase-change materials, membranes, adsorption/sorption, or AI/ML for materials discovery is preferred.
