About this position
Queen Mary University of London is advertising a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in phase-change materials, nanophotonics, and neuromorphic computing. The role focuses on developing phase-change material platforms for nanophotonic and non-von Neumann device applications, combining materials science with device physics and integrated photonic architectures.
The successful candidate will work on GST and related chalcogenides, with responsibilities spanning nano-device fabrication, characterisation, optical and electrical measurement, and modelling of switching dynamics, endurance, and energy efficiency. The post is based in the School of EECS at Queen Mary, a multidisciplinary environment with strong research activity in computer science and electronic engineering.
Eligibility highlights: a PhD in Materials Science, Photonics, Applied Physics, Electronic Engineering, or a related field; experience with phase-change materials; background in integrated photonics or nanophotonics; strong publication record; and strong analytical/modelling skills. Experience with silicon photonics, memristive devices, ML-based optimisation, wafer-scale fabrication, or industrial collaboration would be an advantage.
Funding and benefits: this is a salaried postdoctoral role with competitive pay and standard university benefits, including pension, annual leave, flexible working arrangements, and professional development support.
Deadline: 19 August 2026. Applications should be submitted through the Queen Mary jobs portal.
