About this position

Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Associate for the Thermal Energy Storage Group in the Building Technology Research, Building and Transportation Section, Energy Science and Technology Directorate.

The position focuses on thermal energy storage and building equipment technologies, with research spanning experimental setup design, thermofluid analysis, thermal-fluid systems, sorption systems, compressors, heat exchangers, HVAC systems, and system-level modeling. The successful candidate will conduct laboratory and experimental research, analyze results, prepare technical reports and publications, present findings, and contribute to proposal development and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Eligibility highlights: a PhD in Mechanical Engineering completed within the last 5 years, plus laboratory and experimental experience. Preferred qualifications include hands-on experience with experimental thermal-fluid systems, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, heat and mass transfer, HVAC systems, strong communication skills, and a record of technical publications. DOE-funded or industry-sponsored project experience is highly desirable.

Location: Knoxville, Tennessee, United States. Appointment: up to 24 months with possible extension, depending on performance and funding. ORNL also notes required background/access checks for employment.
