About this position
Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Spatial Multi-Omics and Cholangiocarcinoma at the University of Edinburgh
This is a postdoctoral research opportunity in the Institute of Genetics and Cancer at the University of Edinburgh, working in the Guest Lab on a 2-year, full-time project funded by the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation (CCF). The research focuses on the tissue-specific selection of IDH1/2 mutations in intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC), using spatial multi-omics, single-cell transcriptomics, spatial transcriptomics, and mass spectrometry imaging to study the hepatic progenitor niche and tumour microenvironment.
The post holder will lead the spatial omics component of the programme, including Visium and scRNA-seq analysis, computational integration of spatial metabolomic and transcriptomic datasets, and collaboration with partners at Keio University for MALDI-MSI. The role also includes in vivo work with transgenic mouse models, tissue harvesting, processing, and cryosectioning. The project aims to build spatially resolved metabolic-transcriptomic maps and contribute to high-impact publications.
Eligibility highlights: PhD (or near submission) in bioinformatics, computational biology, systems biology, cancer biology, or a related biomedical science; strong R/Python and bioinformatics skills; experience with mouse models and tissue processing; experience with spatial omics or single-cell RNA-seq is highly desirable; knowledge of liver biology, cancer metabolism, or cholangiocarcinoma is a plus.
Funding and terms: Fixed-term for 24 months, full-time (35 hours/week), Grade UE07, salary £41,064–£48,822 per annum. Hybrid working may be considered. The advert notes that the University may be able to sponsor international workers depending on the successful applicant.
How to apply: Prepare a CV, cover letter, and contact details for two academic referees. Submit the application via the University of Edinburgh careers portal before the closing date.
Deadline: 18 August 2026, 11:59 pm UK time.
