About this position
Karlstad University is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher in Computer Science on Usable Privacy and PETs within the PriSec research group at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science.
The position is part of an upcoming Horizon Europe project focused on privacy-enhancing technologies (PETs), usable privacy, and transparency-enhancing technologies. The work is strongly human-centred and interdisciplinary, with responsibilities including analysing user needs, designing and evaluating accessible interfaces and prototypes, developing usability guidelines for PET developers, and conducting user studies for PET solutions.
The research environment at Karlstad University is described as collaborative, international, and closely connected to society. The project involves Karlstad University and eight other European academic and industrial partners, with a focus on counteracting cross-platform opaque online tracking and supporting privacy-preserving analytics.
This is a full-time, fixed-term postdoctoral appointment for 2 years, with the possibility of a 1-year extension. The role includes up to 20% teaching, such as course contributions or supervision of student theses and projects.
Eligibility highlights: applicants must hold a PhD in computer science or a related subject (or equivalent foreign qualification), with the PhD completed before appointment and normally no more than three years before the application deadline. Very good spoken and written English is required. Strong experience in usable privacy, PETs, HCI, usability evaluation, qualitative and quantitative methods, cybersecurity, and publication in international venues is highly valued; Swedish is an advantage.
Application deadline: 2026-08-07. Apply via the university’s Varbi recruitment system and submit a complete application including CV, cover letter, publication list, PhD documentation, thesis, relevant publications, language skills account, and two references.
