About this position

Pennsylvania State University is recruiting a Postdoctoral Scholar in the Department of Plant Pathology and Environmental Microbiology at State College, Pennsylvania, United States.

The project focuses on plant viruses, mycoviruses, virome dynamics, and virus ecology in agricultural and forest ecosystems. The successful candidate will use molecular biology, genomics, bioinformatics, computational approaches, high-throughput sequencing, and Nanopore-based diagnostic technologies to study virus detection, indexing, characterization, epidemiology, emergence, and host–pathogen ecological interactions.

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate in plant pathology, microbiology, microbial ecology, plant sciences, or a related field, and must complete all degree requirements before the hire date. Experience in virology and bioinformatics is required, including work with R and terminal-based analysis; additional programming languages are a plus. Strong communication and organizational skills are emphasized, and interest in collaborative research, mentoring students, and outreach in STEM is welcomed.

This is a term postdoctoral position; continuation depends on university need, performance, and/or funding availability. Penn State notes a competitive benefits package for full-time employees.
