About this position

Research Fellow in Generative Semantic Communication Technologies for Future Satellite Networks at the University of Surrey, Institute for Communication Systems (ICS), home of the 6G Innovation Centre (6GIC).

This is a full-time fixed-term postdoctoral research position running until June 2028. The project focuses on generative semantic communication, future satellite networks, wireless communication systems, and the use of state-of-the-art generative AI methods such as diffusion models and multimodal large language models.

Eligibility highlights: applicants should have a good honours PhD degree or be close to completing one in wireless communications or AI/computer vision. A strong publication record is expected, with preference for top-tier venues such as NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, CVPR, or leading IEEE journals including IEEE JSAC and ComST. Candidates should also have research experience in wireless communication systems and familiarity with designing and training large generative AI models.

Funding and benefits: salary is £37,694 to £39,906 per annum, with relocation assistance where appropriate and access to university benefits. This is a salaried research job rather than a scholarship.

How to apply: submit your CV and covering letter through the University of Surrey website using the Apply Online button. You will also answer brief suitability questions. Informal queries can be sent to Dr Mahdi Boloursaz Mashhadi at m.boloursazmashhadi@surrey.ac.uk.

Deadline: Friday 14 August 2026 at 23:59 BST.
