About this position

The Research Unit of the University of the Aegean is recruiting a Researcher (R3-PhD) in Civil Engineering with experience in Marine Spatial Planning for the LIFE MareNatura project (LIFE22-NAT-EL-LIFE-MareNatura/101113792).

The successful candidate will contribute to the development of decision-support tools for conservation planning and management. Core duties include data collection and analysis, supporting the development and application of decision-support methodologies, contributing to conservation planning activities, and assisting with technical reports and project deliverables.

This is a temporary research contract linked to an EU-funded project under the LIFE Programme, co-funded by the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA). The role is based at the University of the Aegean, Department of Marine Sciences, in Mytilene, Greece, with flexible work arrangements and frequent online participation in project and lab meetings.

Funding details include an hourly rate of 30–40 euros depending on experience and qualifications, and a maximum gross budget of 27,535.00 EUR including tax and social security contributions. The contract duration is 22 months, with the possibility of extension according to project needs.

Applicants should hold a Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree, and PhD (or equivalent) in relevant fields such as Civil Engineering and/or Environmental Science. The post requires excellent English, mother-tongue Greek, demonstrated experience in Marine Spatial Planning, and at least ten publications or comparable scholarly/technical outputs in the field.
