University of Turku is recruiting for a Doctoral researcher / Project Researcher in Soft Robotics within the Soft Robotics and Adaptive Systems research group (SOFTA lab) in the Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering, Faculty of Technology. The project is centered on metamaterial soft grippers for advanced robotic applications. The selected researcher will design and model soft, mechanically programmed structures, develop computational and CAD tools, and contribute to fabrication and testing using advanced manufacturing methods. The work is hands-on and interdisciplinary, connecting robotics , mechanical engineering , materials science , additive manufacturing , and finite element method (FEM) modelling. The role is part of an upcoming Horizon Europe project and is based in the Automation Unit at the University of Turku. The position is full-time and fixed-term for 3 years. Planned start date is 1 September 2026 or by agreement, but no later than 1 November 2026 . Eligibility highlights: a relevant Master’s degree is required; applicants should have strong skills in mechanical design, 3D printing/additive manufacturing, modelling of compliant structures, and FEM tools. Excellent English writing and communication skills are required, together with the ability to work independently and in collaborative teams.
