Postdoc in Marine Bioluminescence, Ecology and Neuroethology at University of Copenhagen

University of Copenhagen is advertising a postdoc position in marine bioluminescence , shared between the sensory biology group led by Associate Professor Anders Garm and the Centre for Gelatinous Plankton Ecology & Evolution led by Senior Scientist Dr. Cornelia Jaspers . The project focuses on the ecology, neuroethology, evolutionary biology, and biochemical basis of bioluminescence in the ctenophore Mnemiopsis leidyi . The postdoc is part of an interdisciplinary project funded by the Danish Research Council / DFF2 project Marine bioluminescence: How and why? . Research activities include culturing M. leidyi , CRISPR-Cas9 knockout generation, common garden experiments comparing wildtype and knockout strains, antibody-based localization of biosynthesis/recycling components, and advanced imaging such as transmission electron microscopy and VolumeScope FIB-SEM to study light organs and innervation. Applicants should hold a PhD in cell biology, marine ecology, marine invertebrate biology, or a related equivalent field. Preferred experience includes working with invertebrate cultures, experimental physiology or cell biology, 3D morphological reconstruction, gene manipulation (CRISPR-Cas9), mentoring students, and strong English communication skills. The role includes research in invertebrate biology, cell biology, and marine ecology, plus some teaching. The appointment is for 2 years with the possibility of a 1-year extension.
