PhD position available for a joint project between the Environmental Adaptation & Cellular Resilience Lab at the Leibniz Research Institute for Environmental Medicine (IUF) and Prof. Alessandro Prigione’s lab at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf / University Hospital Düsseldorf . The DFG-funded project will study mitochondrial DNA heteroplasmy during the reprogramming of human cells into iPSCs and their differentiation into neurons . The research combines human iPSC models , neuronal differentiation , organoids , long-read mtDNA sequencing , bioinformatics , genome editing , and small-molecule screening . Location: Düsseldorf, Germany. Start: ideally 1 October 2026. Duration: 3 years. Funding: TV-L E13, 65%. Applicants should hold a relevant Master’s degree and have hands-on experience in mammalian cell culture . Experience with iPSCs , neuronal differentiation , organoids , genome engineering , mitochondrial biology , or NGS data analysis is a plus.
