Postdoc in computational molecular programming — DNA nanotechnology, molecular networks and DNA data storage
Karolinska Institutet is advertising a postdoc in computational molecular programming, focused on DNA nanotechnology, molecular networks, and DNA data storage. The position sits in the Högberg lab, an interdisciplinary group working at the interface of computation and the molecular world, and is aimed at researchers who want to develop algorithms, models, and software for programmable DNA and RNA systems.
The research directions include design and simulation of self-assembling DNA nanostructures and molecular machines; reconstruction of molecular distributions from sequencing data, effectively imaging without a microscope; encoding, storing, retrieving, and error-correcting information in DNA; and creating DNA devices that sense their environment, make decisions, and act. The lab emphasizes originality, and candidates may help shape or even lead a direction of their own.
The position is open to creative, quantitatively strong researchers with backgrounds such as physics, computer science, computational biology, systems biology, bioinformatics, mathematics, engineering, chemistry, or biotechnology. Experience in programming, sequencing data, graph or geometry algorithms, machine learning, information theory, molecular modelling, or hands-on molecular biology is helpful but not required. The key requirement is the ability to think computationally, bridge disciplines, and build tools that solve real scientific problems.
The Högberg lab is part of the Division of Molecular Systems Bioengineering at the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics at Karolinska Institutet in Solna, Sweden. The group is supported by a strong and continuous funding record, including an ERC Advanced Grant and other major European and Swedish grants, and has access to world-class sequencing, imaging, and computation infrastructure, including via SciLifeLab.
The employment is a temporary full-time postdoc position. Applicants must hold, or be close to completing, a doctoral degree by the time of the employment decision.
