The University of Birmingham is advertising a Research Fellow in Computational Neuroscience within the School of Psychology , working across the Institute for Data and AI (IDAI) and the Centre for Human Brain Health (CHBH) . This is a full-time, fixed-term research position funded by the Medical Research Council (MRC) and focused on an interdisciplinary project examining how to combat the spread of misinformation. The successful candidate will lead the neuroscience components of the project, including designing and conducting fMRI studies at CHBH, investigating how the brain’s Default Mode Network processes misinformation, identifying scalable psychophysiological markers of critical thinking, and helping translate findings into an applied AI platform that supports reflective and critical thinking. This opportunity is especially relevant for researchers with interests in computational neuroscience , cognitive neuroscience , psychology , brain mapping, neurocognitive mechanisms of belief and misinformation, and data-driven approaches to social impact. The post is at Grade 8 and runs to April 2028 , with likely extension to July 2028 . Eligibility highlights: applicants should have a PhD or be near completion in Psychology, Neuroscience, or a related field, plus strong experience in fMRI , programming ( Python/R/Matlab ), and advanced statistical analysis.
