Assistant Professor in Data-Driven Cardiovascular Medicine (PhD)

Assistant Professor in Data-Driven Cardiovascular Medicine at Karolinska Institutet and Danderyd University Hospital in Stockholm, Sweden. This is a six-year Assistant Professor appointment with a pathway to permanent Senior Lecturer employment. The position is embedded in a highly collaborative clinical research environment at Sweden’s largest acute cardiology department, with access to rich Swedish data resources and strong links to clinical practice. Research focus: data-driven cardiovascular medicine, applied machine learning, deep learning, large language model-based methods, multimodal modelling, clinical epidemiology, cardiovascular imaging, physiological signal analysis, and registry-based research. Relevant data and methods: SCAPIS, SWEDEHEART, national registries, clinical cohorts, ECG, photoplethysmography, coronary CT angiography (CCTA), echocardiography, imaging biomarkers, radiomics, plaque characterisation, and clinical decision-support systems. What the role offers: salary and research costs covered by a 9 MSEK funding package; opportunity to build an independent research programme; access to interdisciplinary collaboration across cardiology, AI, engineering, and data science; and the chance to develop clinically impactful research in prevention, diagnosis, risk stratification, follow-up, and treatment. Eligibility highlights: PhD or equivalent in a relevant field; at least two peer-reviewed original scientific publications as first or last author in addition to the doctoral thesis; strong potential in AI/ML for clinical data; experience with large-scale clinical datasets is particularly valued. Recent PhD completion is preferred, with exceptions for documented deductible time. Deadline: 31 August 2026. How to apply: read the full ad, prepare the required application materials, and submit through the KI/Varbi portal before the deadline.
