Postdoc in Biocomposites – Nanocellulose, Wood and Polymer Materials

This postdoctoral position at Linköping University is focused on the development and study of biocomposites, particularly in the area of nanocellulose, wood fibers, and polymer materials. Cellulose nanofibrils, either isolated or within the wood cell wall, serve as unique building blocks for new materials, offering nanoscale dimensions and excellent mechanical properties. The research program actively explores materials design for multifunctional biocomposites, in-situ polymerization for new polymers, chemical surface modification of cellulose, process-structure relationships in colloidal systems, and the creation of new biocomposites through controlled nanostructuring. High-resolution structural characterization and the study of structure-property relationships in novel composites, as well as applications in organic electronic devices, are integral to the work. As a postdoc, your primary responsibility will be research, with up to 20% of your time potentially devoted to teaching. The project addresses key challenges such as improving composite processing, reducing light scattering in composites, developing new optical and mechanical functions, and enhancing polymer matrices. Specific research objectives will be tailored to the expertise and interests of the selected candidate. The role involves planning, executing, and analyzing experiments, collaborating with colleagues, and reporting findings both orally and in writing. Applicants must hold a doctoral degree (or foreign equivalent) in polymer science and engineering, composites, wood and cellulose science, materials science and engineering, or a related field. Ideally, the degree should be no older than three years at the application deadline, unless statutory leave applies. Strong experimental skills in materials preparation, synthesis, and characterization are required. The selection process emphasizes independence, ambition, communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary research. Proficiency in English is expected. The position is a full-time, temporary contract for two years, with the possibility of extension up to three years. The standard salary is approximately 42,000 SEK per month, with individual salaries applied and employment benefits available. The starting date is by agreement.
