The project focuses on
separation and purification technologies
for
critical mineral recovery
,
resource recovery
from wastewater and mine/industrial residues, and
recycling/upcycling
processes. This is a strong fit for students interested in chemical engineering, materials science, chemistry, environmental science, and mining-related recovery processes.
Preferred backgrounds include
chemical synthesis and materials fabrication
(organic, inorganic, polymeric, or hybrid materials; nanoparticles; porous materials; membranes; composites; aerogels; hydrogels; resins; adsorbents),
colloid and interface science
,
electrochemistry
(electrochemical characterization, electrode materials, electrocatalysis, electrodialysis, electrochemical separations), and/or
computational chemistry and molecular modeling
(DFT, molecular dynamics, Monte Carlo, atomistic simulations).
Applicants should hold both a
B.S. and M.S.
in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Extractive Metallurgy, Mineral Processing, Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or a closely related field.
