Research Assistant Position in Biochemistry/Biophysics and Actin Dynamics (with possible PhD transition)

Emory University is advertising an immediate Research Assistant opening in Biochemistry/Biophysics in the Shekhar lab, led by Shashank Shekhar (Assistant Professor of Physics, Biochemistry & Cell Biology). The lab studies actin dynamics , biochemical mechanisms regulating actin behavior, and related single-molecule biophysical and biochemical questions in cell biology and mechanobiology. This opportunity is especially suitable for a recent graduate or early-career researcher who wants targeted hands-on research experience before graduate school. The post also notes that successful candidates may have the opportunity to transition into a PhD student role in the lab later. Research interests / keywords: biochemistry, biophysics, actin dynamics, cell culture, purified proteins, protein biochemistry, mechanobiology, single-molecule experiments, multicomponent regulation of cytoskeletal systems. Eligibility highlights: B.S. or M.S. in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, or Biophysics; experience in cell culture or working with purified proteins is expected. Application window: deadline is 2026-05-15 , or earlier if the right candidate is found. How to apply: email the PI with your CV, a short statement of interest, and names of 2–3 references, using the subject line “Research Assistant Position.” In parallel, submit the application through the linked Emory job portal.

PhD, Postdoctoral, and Research Assistant Opportunities in Biophysics, Cell Biology, and Biochemistry

Shekhar Lab at Emory University is advertising multiple research opportunities in biophysics, cell biology, biochemistry, bioengineering, and physics . Openings include: project assistants, postdoctoral associates, staff scientist/technician/lab manager roles, graduate student opportunities, and undergraduate research positions. Project assistants should hold a master's degree in biology, biochemistry, or physics and are looking for 1–2 years of research experience before applying for PhD. Strong candidates may later transition into a PhD position in the lab. Postdoctoral associates with backgrounds in cell biology, biochemistry, biophysics, or bioengineering are encouraged to apply. Experience in cytoskeleton dynamics and/or single-molecule methods is helpful but not required. Staff scientist/technician/lab manager applicants should have experience in protein purification and basic molecular biology techniques, with responsibilities including protein purification, reagent ordering, and general lab management. Graduate students with training in physical or biological sciences are welcome to contact Prof. Shashank Shekhar to discuss opportunities. The lab is affiliated with the Physics and Biochemistry, Cell and Developmental Biology (BCDB) graduate programs, and students already enrolled at Laney Graduate School at Emory may also inquire about rotation projects. Undergraduate researchers should be freshmen or sophomores in a science major, have strong academic standing, be reliable, and have enough weekly availability to work 12–16 hours across 2–3 days, including at least one full day each week. Summer full-time research may be paid and/or volunteer. Interested applicants should email Shashank Shekhar at shekhar@emory.edu . The post does not list a deadline.
