About this position

Applications are now open for Round 8 of the National Industry PhD (NIPhD) Program, an Australian Government initiative supporting industry-engaged PhD research across Australian universities and eligible industry partners.

This opportunity is designed for candidates who want to work on real-world, industry-focused doctoral projects while building skills in research, innovation, and commercialisation. The program includes joint supervision from university and industry partners, professional development, networking, and training in industry engagement.

Research areas: The post is broad and project-dependent, but the core themes are applied research, industry collaboration, innovation, and commercialisation. Suitable subjects may include Business and Management, with possible relevance to other applied fields depending on the project.

Funding: Industry Linked PhD candidates receive a stipend top-up of at least $10,000 from the industry partner and $7,135 from the Australian Government for awards commencing in 2026, in addition to a regular PhD stipend and RTP Fees Offset Scholarship. Industry Researcher PhD candidates retain their salary and employment benefits through their employer, which also receives a government subsidy. Universities may provide additional allowances for travel, conferences, relocation, and publication.

Eligibility highlights: The program is open to prospective PhD students, current first-year PhD candidates (subject to university approval), and industry professionals in the Industry Researcher stream. International students are eligible. Applicants need a university, an eligible Australian industry partner, and an industry-focused research project suitable for a PhD.

Application window: Round 8 opens on 13 July 2026 and closes on 21 August 2026. Applicants are encouraged to submit an Expression of Interest and begin discussions with prospective supervisors and industry partners well before the deadline.

How to apply: Register an EOI if you do not yet have all partners in place. Once the round is open, the university and industry partner should prepare the application together and submit it through the university’s Graduate Research Liaison Office (GRLO). If needed, contact Campus Plus at industryphd@campusplus.com.au for assistance.
