About this position
LIGHTinPARIS has launched its 3rd call for PhD fellowships, including the project QUASAR: QUAntum chemical and experimental Spectroscopy of Astrochemical Reactive isomers. This PhD is hosted in the Institute for the Sciences of Light / Institut d’Optique Graduate School and linked to Université Paris-Saclay in France.
The project sits at the intersection of physics and chemistry, with strong emphasis on quantum chemistry, high-resolution spectroscopy, laboratory astrophysics, molecular physics, and astrochemistry. The fellow will combine advanced quantum chemical calculations with laboratory spectroscopic characterization of reactive molecular isomers relevant to space, generating new spectral data to support astronomical searches and astrochemical modelling.
This is a fully funded PhD fellowship under the MSCA COFUND programme, with up to 6 positions in the call. Funding includes a competitive gross monthly salary of at least €2400, a monthly travel and mobility allowance of €200, and coverage of annual doctoral school enrolment fees for 3 years.
Eligibility highlights: applicants must hold or complete a Master’s degree or equivalent by the deadline, must not already hold a PhD, must satisfy the MSCA mobility rule, and need at least B2 English. For this specific project, a background in molecular physics or physical chemistry, quantum chemistry and spectroscopy, and laboratory spectroscopic measurements is expected; experience in high-resolution spectroscopy and quantum-chemical calculations is advantageous.
Application deadline: 21 September 2026 at 12:00 Paris time. Applicants should first verify eligibility, then select the project, contact the supervisor, register on the LIGHTinPARIS portal, and submit the application online.
Supervisor: Marie-Aline MARTIN-DRUMEL (SYSTEMAE team, ISMO, Université Paris-Saclay). The project also includes an international secondment at the University of Bologna, Italy.
Funding details
Full funding including tuition fees and living expenses is available for this position. The scholarship covers all educational costs and provides a monthly stipend.
