PhD opportunity at KU Leuven in rare congenital disease research
The Laboratory of Biochemical Neuroendocrinology in the Department of Human Genetics at KU Leuven is recruiting a PhD candidate to work on Congenital Myasthenic Syndrome 22 (CMS22) and Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS). The project is supervised by Prof. John Creemers and Prof. Anne Rochtus and focuses on understanding overlapping pathways affected by PREPL-related disease mechanisms and imprinting defects.
The PhD project will use molecular cell biology, biochemistry, gene transfer, microscopy, and omics approaches in cell cultures and mouse models to identify affected pathways and substrates. The work is positioned at the interface of basic and translational research, with strong relevance to human genetics, biomedical sciences, and rare disease biology.
Eligibility highlights: a master’s degree in biomedical sciences or a related discipline, strong academic record, excellent English, motivation for interdisciplinary research, ability to work independently, and a proactive, creative, problem-solving mindset.
Funding: the position is full-time and fully funded for 4 years after positive initial evaluation, with salary according to KU Leuven PhD scales. The student will be enrolled in the Doctorate School of Biomedical Sciences and may be encouraged to apply for additional mandate funding.
