About this position

PhD position in cryo-EM on the Structural and Mechanistic Basis of TIP60 Complex Function in Chromatin Regulation and Genome Integrity at the Institute of Genetics and Molecular and Cellular Biology (IGBMC), in the Integrated Structural Biology team of PAPAI-BEN SHEM, in Illkirch, France.

This project focuses on the conserved TIP60/EP400 chromatin remodeling complex, a multi-subunit machinery that controls chromatin dynamics, transcription, DNA damage repair, and genome integrity. The group recently solved the high-resolution cryo-EM structure of the endogenous human TIP60 complex, and this PhD builds directly on that work. The successful candidate will investigate how TIP60-C recognizes nucleosomes to drive H2A.Z exchange, how it promotes DNA damage repair, and how novel therapeutic modulators of TIP60-C can be identified and developed.

The research is highly interdisciplinary and combines single-particle cryo-electron microscopy, structural biology, biochemistry, cell biology, computational drug discovery, structure-based virtual screening, AI-driven de novo peptide and mini-protein design, biochemical characterization, and cellular functional assays. The position offers access to state-of-the-art cryo-EM facilities and advanced computational infrastructure, within a dynamic international research environment at IGBMC.

Eligibility: applicants should have a Master's degree or be near completion in biochemistry, chemistry, molecular biology, biomedical sciences, or a related field. Experience in protein biochemistry, structural biology, computational biology, or cell biology is welcomed but not mandatory. Good English skills, strong communication, curiosity, and motivation for collaborative research are emphasized.

Funding and contract: the position is a three-year PhD contract, with a possible fourth-year extension subject to competitive funding. The advertised salary is approximately €2,300 gross per month.
