About this position

Two PhD research associate positions are available in a cross-border project on Virtual Reality, time and space perception, and immersive environments. The project is jointly hosted by ETH Zurich (Chair of Technology Marketing) and the Technical University of Munich (Professorship of Marketing & Technology), and is funded through SNSF/DFG’s WEAVE scheme.

The research is interdisciplinary, sitting at the intersection of psychology, technology, human-computer interaction, consumer psychology, and neuroscience. One profile focuses on VR development and engineering of immersive experimental environments; the other focuses on behavioral experiments, experimental design, and data analysis using VR as a research tool.

Applicants should have an excellent Master’s degree aligned with either profile, strong quantitative skills (R, Python, or Stata), and a strong interest in fundamental research. For the technical profile, experience with Unity or Unreal is expected, with OpenXR/Blender as advantages. For the behavioral profile, programming is helpful but less essential; eye-tracking or other neuroscientific techniques are a plus. Professional English is required; German/Swiss German is an advantage.

The positions offer a 3-year doctoral contract at standard doctoral rates, with SNSF rates at ETH Zurich and TV-L E13 at TUM. Doctoral training access is included, along with additional quantitative training opportunities and possible research stays in Germany or abroad.

To apply, submit a single PDF by email containing a cover letter, CV, transcript of records, Master’s thesis if available, and two references. The application deadline is 2026-08-25.
