About this position
University of Oslo (UiO), Centre for Technology, Innovation and Culture (TIK), invites applications for a 3-year PhD Research Fellow in Science and Technology Studies (STS) as part of the APPROPRIATE project: Licences to appropriate land for societal ends.
The PhD project is focused on wind power and the Norwegian licensing system, with research questions around valuation practices, economic reasoning, expertise, and how bureaucrats make judgments in licensing decisions. The fellow will be based at TIK and affiliated with the STS research group.
Funding: This is a salaried PhD fellowship at UiO, with salary NOK 551,000–596,000 per year depending on qualifications. Teaching tasks may be included and can extend the contract if agreed.
Eligibility highlights: Applicants need a 2-year Master’s degree or equivalent in STS or a relevant social science/humanities field, high grades (A or B), fluency in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language, documented empirical research experience, and a strong project description aligned with the wind power work package. Experience with document analysis, interviews, and STS theory (e.g., valuation studies, social studies of markets) is an advantage. Residency in or near Oslo is expected.
