About this position

Nord University is recruiting a PhD Research Fellow in Social Science for the project SOTRUST, focused on trust, distrust, conflict, cooperation, and reconciliation in the South Sámi area / South Saepmie.

The position is based at Nord University in Bodø, Norway, within the Faculty of Social Sciences. The project examines the Norwegianization of language, people, and land in South Saepmie and asks how reconciliation can be achieved, between whom, and under what conditions. The successful candidate will design an individual PhD project within this thematic framework.

Relevant academic backgrounds include sociology, social anthropology, political science, geography, and history, and applicants from related humanities or other relevant fields may also be considered. Strong knowledge of Saami language, history, society, and culture is a major advantage. Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree and a completed master’s degree (120 ECTS) or equivalent, meet the PhD admission requirements, and have strong English skills.

The appointment is normally for three years, with the possibility of a four-year contract including 25% career-promoting duties. The annual salary for doctoral researchers is NOK 565,000. The position is linked to a project funded by the Research Council of Norway.
