About this position

Postdoc on Continuous Optical Clocks at the University of Amsterdam, Faculty of Science, Institute of Physics, in the Strontium Quantum Gases Group led by Prof. Dr. Florian Schreck.

This postdoc focuses on experimental ultracold atom physics, optical clocks, quantum sensing, and related many-body physics. The project aims to push optical atomic clocks toward continuous operation, including superradiant clocks and zero-deadtime clocks. The work involves debugging and data taking, designing and constructing upgrades to experimental machines, data analysis, literature research, article writing, and contributing to funding acquisition.

The group works with ultracold Sr gases and is embedded in a broader quantum technology ecosystem, including Quantum Delta NL and collaborations related to optical time/frequency distribution and optical clock prototypes. The postdoc may also interact with ongoing work on continuously operating atom interferometers, quantum simulation with Rb-Sr mixtures, single Sr atoms in optical tweezer arrays, and improved optics.

Eligibility: a recent PhD in experimental ultracold atom or trapped ion physics, plus strong teamwork, initiative, time management, and English communication skills.

Funding and contract: temporary employment for 24 months at 38 hours/week. Salary is €3,546–€5,538 gross per month (Scale 10), plus 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% year-end bonus. A 30% tax ruling may apply to non-Dutch applicants.

Deadline: 2026-09-30. The preferred starting date is Autumn 2026, though earlier or later can be discussed.

How to apply: apply online via the vacancy page. Include a detailed CV with months, a motivation letter, a publication list, and the names and email addresses of two references in the application materials.
