About this position
The Institute of Information Systems (IWI) – Information Management at the University of Bern is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher (100%) in the area of Digital Transformation and Digital Business. The post is embedded in a research group led by Prof. Dr. Christian Matt, whose work focuses on the strategic dimensions of digital transformation and the responsible design and use of AI in organizations. The group has a strong publication record in leading international journals and offers close mentoring in a highly research-oriented environment.
The position is intended for an ambitious early-career researcher who wants to develop an independent, internationally visible scholarly profile. Core responsibilities include designing and leading rigorous empirical research, aiming for publications in top journals including those on the AIS Senior Scholars' List of Premier Journals, contributing to teaching at Bachelor and Master level, collaborating in an interdisciplinary international team, engaging with the wider research community, and contributing to third-party funding acquisition.
Applicants should hold an above-average PhD in Information Systems, Computer Science, technically oriented Business or Economics, Psychology, or a closely related field. A strong publication record, or clear potential to publish in leading international journals, is expected, ideally with emphasis on Information Systems or Management. Candidates should have a strong interest in digital transformation, digital business, and digital value creation, and be comfortable with empirical and/or design-science methods. Very good English is required; German is helpful but not mandatory.
The appointment is full-time (100%) and fixed-term for three years, with possible extension depending on goal achievement and funding availability. The University of Bern offers an attractive salary according to cantonal regulations, strong support for developing a professorial profile, access to modern research infrastructure, and integration into an internationally connected Information Systems community.
Applications should be submitted electronically in English or German with a cover letter, CV, publication list, relevant certificates, and references. The deadline is 9 August 2026. Questions about the position may be addressed to Prof. Dr. Christian Matt at christian.matt@unibe.ch; applications should be sent to team.executive.iwi@unibe.ch.
