About this position
IRTA is advertising a postdoctoral researcher position in gas emission monitoring, modelling and mitigation strategies within the Sustainability in Biosystems program, based in Torre Marimon, Caldes de Montbui. The role sits in the Monitoring Research Line and supports research in circular and sustainable agriculture, with a strong emphasis on greenhouse gas emissions, ammonia, and other gaseous pollutants across agri-food and environmental systems.
The successful candidate will work on the LIFE Odyssey project, focused on odour and greenhouse gas mitigation through smart emission-control systems in wastewater treatment plants. Responsibilities include leading research activities, conducting monitoring and modelling studies, evaluating mitigation and abatement strategies, and contributing to the supervision of junior researchers, PhD candidates, and technical staff. The work also involves identifying future research opportunities and helping develop new project proposals.
Research themes and keywords: environmental science, agriculture, chemical engineering, emissions monitoring, greenhouse gas quantification, ammonia emissions, process-based modelling, MRV frameworks, remote sensing, life cycle assessment, and atmospheric dispersion modelling.
Eligibility highlights: a PhD in Agronomy, Environmental Sciences, Soil Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field; practical experience with gas measurement equipment and sampling; experience designing field, pilot, or laboratory experiments; strong knowledge of IPCC methodologies and agricultural emission models such as DAYCENT, DAISY, ANCA, ANIPRO, Biomethane Tracer, and UNICO; advanced English; and the ability to work in interdisciplinary teams. Catalan and Spanish, remote sensing, WindTrax, R, and knowledge of Mediterranean agricultural systems are valued.
Funding and conditions: the contract is postdoctoral for 3 years, with a yearly salary of €35,100.62. The position is full-time (37.5 hours/week) and includes Friday afternoons off, 23 vacation days, 3 family/work conciliation days, 45 personal hours, remote work up to 6 days per month, and flexible working hours.
