PhD in Polymer Physics and Multiscale Computational Mechanics at Binghamton University

Binghamton University’s Wagner Polymer & Soft Matter Mechanics Lab is recruiting a PhD student / Graduate Research Assistant for a Spring 2027 start in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science & Engineering Program. The lab focuses on polymer physics , polymer synthesis , materials characterization , mechanical testing , and multiscale computational mechanics of advanced soft materials, including polymer networks , elastomers , hydrogels , and related systems. Applicants with experience or strong interest in polymer network mechanics, elastomer/hydrogel synthesis and characterization, rheology, DMA, tensile/compression testing, data analysis, molecular dynamics, finite element analysis, constitutive modeling, or scientific computing tools such as MATLAB, Python, C/C++, LAMMPS, COMSOL, and Abaqus are especially encouraged to apply. Minimum requirements include a B.S. degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Physics, or a closely related field, plus a strong academic record, research potential, and excellent communication skills. Admission into Binghamton University ME or MSE graduate programs is required. The position includes a competitive graduate research assistantship with stipend, tuition support, and health insurance , subject to university policies and satisfactory progress.
