About this position
Nicolaus Copernicus University in Poland is offering a PhD scholarship in the Faculty of Physics, Astronomy and Informatics for work on Imaging using Quantum Optical Coherence Tomography. The project is led by Prof. Piotr Kolenderski and focuses on advanced physics, machine learning, neural networks, and signal/image processing for Quantum Optical Coherence Tomography (Q-OCT).
The successful candidate will develop and optimize machine learning methods for processing Q-OCT signals, including Fourier-domain Q-OCT (Fd-Q-OCT) and Swept Source Q-OCT (SS-Q-OCT). Research tasks include artefact and dispersion removal, neural-network-based image resolution improvement, preparation of training datasets from experimental and simulated data, automated generation of training data from joint spectra, and validation of models on experimental signals.
This is a scholarship under the Doctoral School, not a standard employment contract. Funding is provided as a stipend of 5,000 PLN gross/month for up to 24 months before the midterm evaluation and 6,500 PLN gross/month for up to 24 months after the midterm evaluation, for a total planned duration of up to 48 months.
Eligibility highlights: Master’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a relevant discipline; background in machine learning or programming; very good English; knowledge of Optical Coherence Tomography or Quantum Optical Coherence Tomography is preferred but not mandatory.
How to apply: email the required documents to kolenderski@fizyka.umk.pl with the subject line Opus 29.3. Required documents include a cover letter, CV, diplomas/certificates, publications if any, awards/distinctions if any, description of current research activity if applicable, consent to personal data processing, and a certificate of student status.
